The A+ Advantage

A+ Children’s Academy is the only facility in Central Illinois that centers their teaching around the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasizes visual learning to help brain development in early childhood.  Led by Michelle Didesch-Rouland, who has been educating children and teachers for over 20 years.

Michelle graduated Summa Cum Laude from Bradley University with an undergraduate in Early Childhood with a focus on Special Education Endorsement, and a Masters in Curriculum Instruction.  The staff and teachers at A+ Children’s Academy promote creativity through visual arts, literacy skills, sciences, and more under the close supervision of Michelle Didesch-Rouland.

A Reggio Inspired School

The Reggio Approach was started in Reggio, Italy and built by parents after WWII.  One of its fundamental principles is that children must be seen as capable with tremendous potential.  At A+ Children’s Academy our curriculum promotes Creativity through the Visual Arts, Literacy Skills, Science, Math, Socialization and Hands-on Learning.  We utilize center-based classrooms and curriculum projects driven by the children’s interests to promote brain development.  As your child investigates an interest topic in smaller groups they will be Problem Solving, Journaling, and Exploring the world around them.  The Reggio Emilia approach to curriculum promotes a love for Investigation, Experimentation and brings Learning To Life!  The visual arts are used as a medium to advance thinking and learning.  The strong emphasis on “Graphic Languages” makes learning visible.  The emphasis on visual arts such as Painting, Weaving, Sculpting and Photography advances brain development and allows children to express what they’ve learned.  Our goal is to make learning fun while preparing your child to be more than ready for Kindergarten.  There is no other school dedicated to teaching the Reggio Emilia way between Chicago and St. Louis!

What We Provide

Second Language

So much brain development happens in the first 5 years of a child’s life!  We provide a nurturing environment to maximize this brain development.  We believe in an infant schedule based on parental preferences of routine.  Brain research says that Sign Language as a second language for infants and toddlers promotes early problem-solving skills and boosts IQ significantly!  As children move to the older classrooms, Spanish as a second language is taught through preschool.

Enrichment Classes

We provide many Enrichment Classes during your child’s academic day. All children participate in Music and Art classes twice a week. This is a time to not only learn and develop but to have fun and interact with other classrooms. Enroll your child in Dance, Tumbling, Soccer or Rumbasize classes taught on site during their Academy day.  When you are ready to go home at the end of the day, so is your child.  No more after-work running!

Assessments

At our school, we provide a performance assessment for each child and conference with parents Twice a Year.  In this way, we can maximize communication between parents and teachers regarding children’s progress and capitalize on their future potential.

Nutrition

Children are served Breakfast, Lunch, and an Afternoon Snack.  All meals are prepared on site.  Dietary needs, cultural preferences and allergy-specific menus are set up, upon parental request.  All meals are served family style to encourage manners and socialization with other friends and teachers.  Menus are planned according to children’s preferences while exceeding the guidelines of DCFS and the Health Department.
